I've even fallen down on reading blogs. I haven't read YHL in like.. a week. Shocker. <br />
<br />
However, I couldn't pass up a chance to list a few of my favorite things for Nester's Favorite Things Linky party. Also, Christmas is coming up and apparently I'm hard to shop for. So, without further ado, here are some of my favorite things right now:<br />
<br />
Starbucks VIA<br />
<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://www.starbucks.com/" target="_blank">via</a></td></tr>
</tbody></table>
Yes, it's pricey. But having a REAL cup of coffee when you're stuck in a hotel is a miracle that cannot be underestimated. I pack these with me for every overnight. I also keep some in my desk drawer at work for a mid-afternoon pick me up. Since real coffee is a 20 minute drive from my office.<br />
<br />
Suave Waterless Shampoo<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-_03ps-HwdSs/TtfnGxUzZhI/AAAAAAAAFGA/DA4vQJVsBio/s1600/svh-5oz-dryshampoo137-55496.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" dda="true" height="320" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-_03ps-HwdSs/TtfnGxUzZhI/AAAAAAAAFGA/DA4vQJVsBio/s320/svh-5oz-dryshampoo137-55496.png" width="151" /></a></div>
This stuff actually works and makes your hair look presentable on days you don't have time to wash. This is my go-to product for Saturday mornings when I want to run errands and not shower. <br />
<br />
<br />
Yankee Candle Company candles<br />
<br />

I love the Balsam Cedar scent at Christmas and Clean Cotton the rest of the year.<br />
<br />
<br />
Cuties Clementines<br />
<br />
These are super- yummy, not very messy, and seedless. A perfect snack that doesn't bruise when I carry it in my purse.<br />
<br />
Burt's Bee's Lipgloss<br />
<br />
My lips get horribly chapped in the winter, and this stuff is amazing. The hint of color makes me look presentable, even if I have no other makeup on.<br />
<br />
Crane's Stationery<br />
<br />

It's pricey, but nothing makes me want to write a letter more than the feel of that thick cotton paper. <br />
<br />
<br />
Sharpie ultra fine point blue <br />
Love this pen. If I could write only in Sharpie for the rest of my life, I'd be happy. <br />
<br />
<br />
Fleece PJ pants<br />

Comfy, warm, yet presentable for the above Saturday morning errand running. So my fall wreath, which has gottten tons of comments, is maybe not the best tutorial. I woke up from a nap yesterday to find this.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-iFn4ZGJUsLA/TnoVO0GKDFI/AAAAAAAAE8I/Tz-Ks68-v9o/s1600/2011-09-11+16.19.51.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-iFn4ZGJUsLA/TnoVO0GKDFI/AAAAAAAAE8I/Tz-Ks68-v9o/s320/2011-09-11+16.19.51.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Hot glue does not hold well if exposed to heat! <br />
Oops..<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-P4lnBPkodS0/TnoVYxmAp-I/AAAAAAAAE8M/NZ-5xFkhKNs/s1600/2011-09-11+16.19.59.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-P4lnBPkodS0/TnoVYxmAp-I/AAAAAAAAE8M/NZ-5xFkhKNs/s320/2011-09-11+16.19.59.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
So now it's back to the drawing board for an adhesive that will hold up to the full day of direct sunlight my front door recieves.<br />
Stay tuned.</div>

Sometimes, a comment to a stranger can change their day. These random acts of kindness might give them the encouragement they need to take the next step. Maybe it's a big step, maybe a small one. It might be to dig through the fabric bin and see what you can use to make some fall decor. It may be to start changing your outlook.<br />
<br />
<br />
Whether you're Nester, encouraging us to love our limitations, or one of the other 31 dayers, helping us improve ourselves, our lives, and our homes this month- you might just be the encouragement someone needs.<br />

One of my friends is designing a condo for a young professional who wants a contemporary masculine condo and loves the color navy. <br />
In brainstorming ideas, I came up with this concept living room for inspiration.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-OKMsjGrRAaY/TmWaflQzJyI/AAAAAAAAE4k/2r73wmUY1ZU/s1600/Slide1.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-OKMsjGrRAaY/TmWaflQzJyI/AAAAAAAAE4k/2r73wmUY1ZU/s640/Slide1.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
Masculine and streamlined, yet comfortable enough to kick back and watch some TV or play video games. I think of someone who's seen a bit of the world and collected interesting pieces when I think of this young professional, so I threw in a rustic element or two for contrast.<br />
<br />
The whole scheme features a navy and chartreuse scheme, with dark wood accents. This client has an urban condo with light wood floors, exposed concrete, and floor to ceiling windows. Dark navy walls ground the space and give a moody vibe, while a concrete coffee table stands up to all the abuse pizza and video games can dish out. Chrome-arm chairs with a navy leather upholstery are slick and masculine, while the charcoal sofa is sure to feature comfy arms for <strike>napping during</strike> watching the game. Soft linen panels add an element of privacy to the windows, while the area rug dampens sound and ties the space together.<br />
<br />

One of the things I responded with was that he was always helpful and encouraging of me, especially when it comes to this blogging adventure.<br />
<br />
Like cutting sticks into pieces for me to make my wood round wreath.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/--Iv_D-GX_y4/TmTMP_96ZwI/AAAAAAAAEx4/9zmxTowKoS8/s1600/2011-09-03+12.18.02.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/--Iv_D-GX_y4/TmTMP_96ZwI/AAAAAAAAEx4/9zmxTowKoS8/s320/2011-09-03+12.18.02.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
But also because he does things like install my new kitchen fixture while I'm away on a work trip.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-0pvLgzkMYo4/TmV6VUI5NlI/AAAAAAAAE2w/Rl-7L8AiX0A/s1600/2011-09-05+20.51.10.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-0pvLgzkMYo4/TmV6VUI5NlI/AAAAAAAAE2w/Rl-7L8AiX0A/s320/2011-09-05+20.51.10.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
And then to install under cabinet lighting in the kitchen since I've always complained the counter by the stove is too dark.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-BDHIu2X7rM8/TmV6aoDG8vI/AAAAAAAAE28/uWwR7TyiWGQ/s1600/2011-09-05+20.50.24.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-BDHIu2X7rM8/TmV6aoDG8vI/AAAAAAAAE28/uWwR7TyiWGQ/s320/2011-09-05+20.50.24.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-tpvM7vt00_s/TmV6Y-zqEeI/AAAAAAAAE24/k3wJw4xXGBY/s1600/2011-09-05+20.50.43.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-tpvM7vt00_s/TmV6Y-zqEeI/AAAAAAAAE24/k3wJw4xXGBY/s320/2011-09-05+20.50.43.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
So while I can cross things off my projects list, I can't always share them because I keep coming home to find them done, with only the tools as evidence.
So if you ask me again why Prince Charming got that name, it's because MY Prince has tools and knows how to use them! Which is pretty terrific for this DIY kinda girl. Margaret@MissAdventures of Susie Homemakerhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16123525844064425996noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-206895781097921595.post-28014222363751403082011-09-19T08:00:00.000-04:002011-09-19T08:00:32.633-04:00Learning to Cook DinnerI don't remember learning to cook. I guess it's been something I've learned by helping over the years. I can remember being in middle school cooking things, and having some spectacular failures. Knowing how to cook is something I admit I often take for granted. I don't have to think about how to put dinner on the table every night. This weekend, I was reminded that so many people struggle with that daily dilemma. For lots of families this is a truth:<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://www.hautpapier.com/images/napkins/catalog/50804.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" src="http://www.hautpapier.com/images/napkins/catalog/50804.jpg" /></a></td></tr>

One of Prince Charming's friends is moving 10 minutes away from my house this week. In talking with this friend's wife, K, she asks me if I can teach her to cook. Of course- I love creating new foodies. :)<br />
<br />
In thinking about how to teach her to cook, I thought I'd share some tips with you. Just in case you have trouble in the dinner department too.<br />
<br />
1. Start small, and don't over-do it. I only cook one new recipe a week. Like any new thing, trying to do a whole lot at once is overwhelming. Even if you can't boil water, just pick one day a week to try a recipe. I like the weekend, since I tend to be more relaxed and not so stressed about getting dinner on the table at a reasonable hour. After a while, you'll be able to add more nights in where you cook things you already know how to make.<br />
<br />
2. Start by making a list of things you like to eat. For so many people, the hardest thing about dinner (other than the fact it comes EVERY DAY), is figuring out what to make. The first step to meal planning is thinking of what you like. I made a list of things I liked to eat when I was in my first apartment. Those are the things you want to learn to cook first. Once you know them, you can have Taco Tuesdays or Spaghetti Fridays or whatever.<br />
<br />
3. Don't be intimidated by fancy names of dishes. You might think you could never make boeuf bourguignon, when really, it's beef stew in a fancy dress. Chicken Parmesan? That's breaded chicken with spaghetti sauce and cheese. Risotto? Slow cooked rice.<br />
<br />
4. Don't be afraid of meal helpers. Lots of people cook dinner every night with Hamburger Helper, make cakes with Duncan Heinz, and are perfectly good cooks. The reason those products are on the shelf is that it makes dinner cheaper/ easier/ faster. So use them if you want or need to.<br />
<br />
5. Expect failure. Even Julia Child had flops. We all do. I still remember the dried out Thanksgiving turkey that was raw inside. The key is to say "oh well" and just eat all the side dishes.<br />
<br />
<br />
Hopefully, this advice helps you in your dinner escapades. Please let me know if you'd like to hear about how K learns to cook.Margaret@MissAdventures of Susie Homemakerhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16123525844064425996noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-206895781097921595.post-76883368636963719772011-09-13T08:00:00.001-04:002011-09-13T08:05:01.304-04:00Tasty Tuesday: Vintage Betty Crocker Meat loafSometimes, you just can't mess with a classic. I have Mom's Betty Crocker Dinner for Two cookbook from the seventies. While some things aren't quite to my taste (Jellied Chicken, anyone?), it's a great resource for me, especially for menus for two. Sadly, it's not available new anymore, but you can find used copies on Ebay and Amazon.<br />

Here's a closer look at the recipe:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Meat Loaf:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
1/2 lb ground beef</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
1/2 lb ground lean pork ( I use turkey instead)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
1 1/2 slices soft bread, torn in pieces, and 1/2 cup milk, or 1/2 cup dry bread crumbs and 2/3 c milk</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
1 egg, beaten</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
2 tbsp minced onion</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
salt to taste</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
1/8 tsp each pepper, dry mustard, celery salt, and garlic salt</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
1 1/2 tsp Worcestershire sauce</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
ketchup</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Heat the oven to 350 degrees. Mix everything in a large bowl until thoroughly mixed. Shape into 2 loaves and place in a baking pan. I use my 9x13 pan, sprayed with cooking spray. Squirt ketchup over the top of the loaves. Bake about an hour, or until done. Makes 4 servings.</div>

I think there is a rule that says meat loaf must be served with potatoes. This time, mine were baked, and I served this with some roasted summer squash and zucchini.<br />

It's been so hot this summer, I'm definitely wishing for cooler days and falling leaves!<br />
<br />
With all the home improvement projects half started around here, my dusting isn't quite as regular as my mother would hope. So, I tried to minimize the amount of "stuff" I put out.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-KFeuiUYtoYg/TmTPhRAFGfI/AAAAAAAAEzE/ItM2QtyL4wc/s1600/2011-09-04+14.21.24.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-KFeuiUYtoYg/TmTPhRAFGfI/AAAAAAAAEzE/ItM2QtyL4wc/s320/2011-09-04+14.21.24.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
On the upside, putting out new decorative items has really made me feel more at peace with where my house is now. Last week, everywhere I looked was another project, another thing "to do". Now, I can look at my living room and think "It's getting pretty comfy in here".<br />

You can read all about the inspiration I gave her <a href="http://theadventuresofsusiehomemaker.blogspot.com/2011/07/moms-breakfast-room-e-design.html">here</a>.<br />
<br />
Just to recap, until she can afford to do the intensive, let's pull the construction permits makeover she wants, this is the mini version. Scrape the ugly popcorn off, paint everything, and change up the decor items.<br />
<br />
Here's the before:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-K4U1Z1WJRMY/TmVbZY1JlPI/AAAAAAAAE1w/Z6zrSdtk598/s1600/001.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-K4U1Z1WJRMY/TmVbZY1JlPI/AAAAAAAAE1w/Z6zrSdtk598/s320/001.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-vlGFaSjwZ9s/TmVbiaT30dI/AAAAAAAAE10/gY3Z2Evb9bU/s1600/002.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-vlGFaSjwZ9s/TmVbiaT30dI/AAAAAAAAE10/gY3Z2Evb9bU/s320/002.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-UNtDXmSTstk/TmVbrOopgmI/AAAAAAAAE14/30QCgsDkvvw/s1600/003.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-UNtDXmSTstk/TmVbrOopgmI/AAAAAAAAE14/30QCgsDkvvw/s320/003.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Mom says:<br />
"Seven years ago I downsized to a smaller house which was in need of updating. Dirty walls, leftover<br />
drapes, and out of date décor needed lots of help. To make the space somewhat habitable, paint was<br />
the first order of business. The breakfast room got leftover paint on the walls, a clearance quilt for a<br />
tablecloth and the former homeowner’s living room drapes. A month or so ago, I started some general<br />
cleaning and threw the drapes in the washer. What came out was a faded mess that I just couldn’t put<br />
back up and no matter what I did the walls didn’t come clean. Time for a new plan! Susie Homemaker to the rescue.<br />
<br />
First I tackled the awful popcorn ceiling. It’s a messy job but I had done other ceilings in the house so no<br />
problem. Well, this ceiling was a DIY from previous homeowner and did I make a mess. Handyman BJ to<br />
the rescue (making the project a bit over budget but oh well. . .). That accomplished, I finished painting<br />
the walls and trim. The paint was the same Sherman Williams Sprout as the kitchen but looks different<br />
in the light filled room.<br />
<br />
Following the e-design, went shopping and found the curtains at my local store. Not so lucky with the<br />
rug but did manage to find one I liked in the green/blue colors of the room. I like the dark brown in it<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-KrUq2U3RJow/TmVcP1C3--I/AAAAAAAAE2I/iUE6IV8Gpfc/s1600/010.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-KrUq2U3RJow/TmVcP1C3--I/AAAAAAAAE2I/iUE6IV8Gpfc/s320/010.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
because it ties to the walnut hardwood floors in the rest of the house. I have a more traditional taste<br />
so I’m the interior designer’s bane of existence and just couldn’t branch out to the more modern lamp.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-8lFWHrpf4zw/TmVbRC37ukI/AAAAAAAAE1s/siScQAiwlK8/s1600/012.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-8lFWHrpf4zw/TmVbRC37ukI/AAAAAAAAE1s/siScQAiwlK8/s320/012.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Did find one I liked in the right colors and on sale! The curtains went up when I got home but oh no, too<br />
short. So, to the fabric store to add a border like the designer did for her guest bedroom. Works like a<br />
charm. However, the tablecloth didn’t turn out so well and it will be a re-do at some point.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-XXXukRCSJ2I/TmVcHyuH2QI/AAAAAAAAE2E/GkEsmxGDD70/s1600/008.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-XXXukRCSJ2I/TmVcHyuH2QI/AAAAAAAAE2E/GkEsmxGDD70/s320/008.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<br />
Overall, it is a clean and fresh breakfast room and I love it. Thanks for the e-design!"<br />
<br />
The ceiling, which was a lesson in what NOT to do in drywall, got a rescue from the resident Handyman. Neither Mom nor I have the patience for drywall mud. The walls got two coats of Sprout, the same color as the kitchen, and straight out of the can semigloss white for the trim.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-k8zoMFhU_Gg/TmVby_pI6JI/AAAAAAAAE18/Xuk3_NpJMVI/s1600/005.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-k8zoMFhU_Gg/TmVby_pI6JI/AAAAAAAAE18/Xuk3_NpJMVI/s320/005.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
With her e-design concept board, Mom got a budget estimate with retailers, item numbers, and costs for everything on her design board. That made it easy for her to go shopping to find the items she needed. Some things she didn't agree with me on, but she did have a list of places to start her search.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-n4vjlpZDIzg/TmVb8h8WZGI/AAAAAAAAE2A/ch2qIEQr5KU/s1600/006.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-n4vjlpZDIzg/TmVb8h8WZGI/AAAAAAAAE2A/ch2qIEQr5KU/s320/006.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
I can't wait to go see how it all turned out in person!<br />

I LOVE the look of a big tall upholstered headboard. It's a really easy and inexpensive way to add drama to a room.<br />
<br />
I knew I wanted an upholstered headboard when I started my bedroom makeover. I also wanted it to be inexpensive and easy for me to DIY.<br />
<br />
I started with a 4'x 8' sheet of pegboard I had cut down to 4'x4' at Lowe's. While there I picked up two French-Cleat Art mounting brackets. Then I went to Jo-Ann and bought 1" foam and quilt batting. <br />
<br />
To start, I laid my pegboard down, and sprayed spray adhesive all over it.<br />
Then I laid the foam down.<br />
<br />
Moving inside, I laid my face fabric (a flat sheet from Target) down on a clean surface. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<br />
Then I laid my batting on top of that. <br />
<br />
Finally, I laid my foamed- up pegboard down on the batting, foam side down. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-y6jpO1IZrbg/TmV_60qVHSI/AAAAAAAAE3U/0www7wGScnw/s1600/DSCN1296.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-y6jpO1IZrbg/TmV_60qVHSI/AAAAAAAAE3U/0www7wGScnw/s320/DSCN1296.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
First, I stapled the batting to the pegboard with my trusty staple gun. You want to pull it taut, but not tight. Try to keep even pressure all the way around so it doesn't wave. <br />
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Then, repeat the process with your face fabric. Staple one staple in the top, then one in the bottom, one in the left, and one in the right. Go back to the top and staple like hell.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-uDJ93jE_2eY/TmWAAZeqkuI/AAAAAAAAE3Y/CNL7wZCmdco/s1600/DSCN1297.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-uDJ93jE_2eY/TmWAAZeqkuI/AAAAAAAAE3Y/CNL7wZCmdco/s320/DSCN1297.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-kyLexL-4mPw/TmWAL1CzLlI/AAAAAAAAE3g/ewHK-cguYqU/s1600/DSCN1299.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-kyLexL-4mPw/TmWAL1CzLlI/AAAAAAAAE3g/ewHK-cguYqU/s320/DSCN1299.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
When you get to the corners, you'll need to pretend you're wrapping a package or making a bed.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-nSiNljwXpA0/TmWAYKcmlGI/AAAAAAAAE3o/txw_WHOej0k/s1600/DSCN1303.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-nSiNljwXpA0/TmWAYKcmlGI/AAAAAAAAE3o/txw_WHOej0k/s320/DSCN1303.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Pull one side down, and add a staple.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-mupn03kYmr8/TmWAd12Jd7I/AAAAAAAAE3s/ZIESoba9nLM/s1600/DSCN1305.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-mupn03kYmr8/TmWAd12Jd7I/AAAAAAAAE3s/ZIESoba9nLM/s320/DSCN1305.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Then pull the other across and staple again.<br />
<br />
The finished product:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-PjVcKT2LUMw/TmWAj2jmSLI/AAAAAAAAE3w/q327bpPvHz8/s1600/DSCN1307.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-PjVcKT2LUMw/TmWAj2jmSLI/AAAAAAAAE3w/q327bpPvHz8/s320/DSCN1307.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Now time to add the mounting hardware.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-xu4TbTfKm00/TmWAprtp4pI/AAAAAAAAE30/AXjmzWKVtHo/s1600/DSCN1309.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-xu4TbTfKm00/TmWAprtp4pI/AAAAAAAAE30/AXjmzWKVtHo/s320/DSCN1309.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I taped my cleats in place first:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-9eOuDHM5ed8/TmWA1K8vjXI/AAAAAAAAE38/kzBOicC3sEs/s1600/DSCN1313.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-9eOuDHM5ed8/TmWA1K8vjXI/AAAAAAAAE38/kzBOicC3sEs/s320/DSCN1313.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Then screwed them in with the provided hardware.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-CPgWI63923s/TmWBApsefpI/AAAAAAAAE4E/b4eMwkjogeU/s1600/DSCN1316.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-CPgWI63923s/TmWBApsefpI/AAAAAAAAE4E/b4eMwkjogeU/s320/DSCN1316.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Next I measured where the cleats were in relation to the top of the headboard and each other:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/--3WPgDLpP3E/TmWBMptOMjI/AAAAAAAAE4M/4rq4_12BPhE/s1600/DSCN1318.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/--3WPgDLpP3E/TmWBMptOMjI/AAAAAAAAE4M/4rq4_12BPhE/s320/DSCN1318.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-FVc4mVNCW64/TmWBSgJGAGI/AAAAAAAAE4Q/m5f3FfCsjHA/s1600/DSCN1320.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-FVc4mVNCW64/TmWBSgJGAGI/AAAAAAAAE4Q/m5f3FfCsjHA/s320/DSCN1320.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<br />
You need to do some math to figure out where to mount your cleats on the board and on the wall.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-TdQOlrs_lMU/TmWBGzoKb6I/AAAAAAAAE4I/dA87UJjtPzE/s1600/DSCN1317.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-TdQOlrs_lMU/TmWBGzoKb6I/AAAAAAAAE4I/dA87UJjtPzE/s320/DSCN1317.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Then mount the cleats on the wall according to your math.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-ppKR7UrhR0Q/TmWBY_KRaBI/AAAAAAAAE4U/FxsXg_aoSC0/s1600/DSCN1321.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-ppKR7UrhR0Q/TmWBY_KRaBI/AAAAAAAAE4U/FxsXg_aoSC0/s320/DSCN1321.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The cleats have an angle to them to allow the part mounted to the headboard to slip on to the wall part.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Now just get someone to help you hang the headboard on the wall cleats, and you're done.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-sm7DcZDLPms/TmWBo14GTzI/AAAAAAAAE4g/dIpBYMMmMBc/s1600/DSCN1324.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-sm7DcZDLPms/TmWBo14GTzI/AAAAAAAAE4g/dIpBYMMmMBc/s320/DSCN1324.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I finished this in February (bad blogger!) and am STILL debating about adding nailhead trim to it. Any thoughts? </div>
<div class="separator" style</div>Margaret@MissAdventures of Susie Homemakerhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16123525844064425996noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-206895781097921595.post-73323525929387074392011-09-05T17:38:00.000-04:002011-09-08T15:19:37.479-04:00Fall Wood Round WreathLast week, I got my new copy of Lowe's <i>Creative</i> <i>Ideas</i> magazine in the mail. If you don't already subscribe, I highly recommend it. It's free, and always a great source of inspiration. One of the things they featured was this wreath made from a cut up dowel.<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://lowescreativeideas.com/Libraries/0811%20Article%20Project%20Images/Dowel-Wreath_web.sflb" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://lowescreativeideas.com/Libraries/0811%20Article%20Project%20Images/Dowel-Wreath_web.sflb" width="293" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://www.lowescreativeideas.com/idea-library/projects/Dowel_Wreath_0811.aspx">Lowe's Creative Ideas</a></td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<br />
They projected the cost at $32. Sounds great, but why would I go buy a dowel, when the backyard is full of sticks for free? So I set out to make my free version of the wood rounds wreath.<br />
<br />
First up, Alex helped me find the perfect sticks. I was looking for one or two that were at least a couple feet long and 1 1/2 -2" in diameter, to match the style of the wreath in the magazine. I found some long branches that had a good width and tapered to about a half inch in diameter at the end.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-anVQN1bwvE4/TmTMHqgQ3EI/AAAAAAAAExs/p8JczpDh66A/s800/2011-09-03%25252011.58.20.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-anVQN1bwvE4/TmTMHqgQ3EI/AAAAAAAAExs/p8JczpDh66A/s400/2011-09-03%25252011.58.20.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
Next, I <strike>told</strike> asked Prince Charming to cut them into random lengths with his saw. In keeping with the inspiration, I was looking for cuts between three-quarters and two inches. I didn't have him measure, because nature isn't regular. All things in nature are random, so having him make random cuts would give me a more realistic wreath. You can, however, make all your cuts the same at four different lengths if you want to follow the plan exactly. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-6k_60zvUMek/TmTMRzMyUiI/AAAAAAAAEx8/xgLXkXpf7ro/s800/2011-09-03%25252012.19.10.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-6k_60zvUMek/TmTMRzMyUiI/AAAAAAAAEx8/xgLXkXpf7ro/s400/2011-09-03%25252012.19.10.jpg" width="300" /></a></div>
So then I was left with a bunch of wood rounds. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-rU_lEk1fGiM/TmTMe9gaRNI/AAAAAAAAEyI/caB-YNU2YAQ/s800/2011-09-03%25252012.19.32.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-rU_lEk1fGiM/TmTMe9gaRNI/AAAAAAAAEyI/caB-YNU2YAQ/s400/2011-09-03%25252012.19.32.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
I plugged in my big glue gun and got to work. I recommend not using the baby glue gun here because you want a lot of glue,and the small one just can't keep up. Got to use the right tools for the job. While the glue was heating up, I laid down waxed paper so my wreath wouldn't stick to my cardboard glue mat. Then, I took a dinner plate and a marker and traced a circle on my paper. This was my circle template. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-lOUDXpaV3d4/TmTOd_LxMWI/AAAAAAAAEyM/vFsSPc53rb8/s800/2011-09-04%25252010.26.02.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-lOUDXpaV3d4/TmTOd_LxMWI/AAAAAAAAEyM/vFsSPc53rb8/s400/2011-09-04%25252010.26.02.jpg" width="300" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-LApgKRdiPak/TmTOfskD7gI/AAAAAAAAEyQ/YM2YECQWXU8/s800/2011-09-04%25252010.26.46.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-LApgKRdiPak/TmTOfskD7gI/AAAAAAAAEyQ/YM2YECQWXU8/s400/2011-09-04%25252010.26.46.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
Now time to glue! I glued two pieces together to make blocks. I then glued these blocks together, using gobs of glue, until I had filled in my circle. I then took my remaining rounds and arranged them around the outside to create a second circle. Then I glued them in place. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-yjDfcvh5VgY/TmTOr12pqWI/AAAAAAAAEys/L8mxzJMUha8/s1600/2011-09-04+10.34.05.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-yjDfcvh5VgY/TmTOr12pqWI/AAAAAAAAEys/L8mxzJMUha8/s400/2011-09-04+10.34.05.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-uJ9P65g1Byc/TmTOn6odRSI/AAAAAAAAEyk/WqsWhsvErKs/s800/2011-09-04%25252010.33.22.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-uJ9P65g1Byc/TmTOn6odRSI/AAAAAAAAEyk/WqsWhsvErKs/s400/2011-09-04%25252010.33.22.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
When arranging your pieces, make sure to vary the sizes so you get variety in both height and diameter. Once everything was glued, I let it sit for about 20 minutes to harden fully. Then, I peeled it off the waxed paper and hung it on my front door.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-8D6221cFzfQ/TmUg43YGdoI/AAAAAAAAE0M/au8dCgwOw8U/s1600/DSCN1622.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-8D6221cFzfQ/TmUg43YGdoI/AAAAAAAAE0M/au8dCgwOw8U/s400/DSCN1622.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
love how rustic and fallish it looks. I may add a bow or some other embellishment to it, but for now, I'm keeping it plain.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-vvz5SBSiTcY/TmUhECxFyDI/AAAAAAAAE08/ZFVgapUq02Q/s1600/DSCN1623.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-vvz5SBSiTcY/TmUhECxFyDI/AAAAAAAAE08/ZFVgapUq02Q/s320/DSCN1623.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
It ties in perfectly with my fall mums and my pumpkins for fall. Which I would love to step back and take a picture of for you, but it decided to rain buckets today.<br />
<br />
It seems only fitting I share this over at <a href="http://www.thenester.com/">The Nester's</a>, since she's having a wreath link party. It is appropriately titled: <a href="http://www.thenester.com/2011/09/you-made-a-wreath-out-of-what-a-linky-party.html">You Made a Wreath out of What</a>? So if you're visiting from there, hi. Best of all, it's a very quick meal. I served mine over some whole-wheat couscous with a salad on the side. A great weeknight dinner, and an easy break from chicken over and over and over again! </span><br />

I definitely have the list making gene. Most tables, notepads, and paper scraps in my house have some form of a to-do list on them. Do Today. Things to buy. Don't forget. Long range goals, projects to get done, blog ideas.. they all find their way onto a to-do list.<br />
<br />
In talking with one of the girls at work, she's a list maker too. And so to help us both out, I decided to create a notebook that can fit all those lists into one. Sized to fit a half sheet of 8 1/2" x 11" paper, it's economical to print and easy to store in a purse or on a bedside table.<br />
<br />
Because sometimes I finish things on one list well before I finish things on another, the pages are cut into three sections that are spiral bound together.<br />
<br />
I'll be sharing a tutorial on how I put the notebook together later.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-8MuQ5t1ctuU/Tkh6CwNHmWI/AAAAAAAAEjg/qX0sCRbZaBs/s1600/3+part+to-do+list-+turquoise+and+yellow.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="247" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-8MuQ5t1ctuU/Tkh6CwNHmWI/AAAAAAAAEjg/qX0sCRbZaBs/s320/3+part+to-do+list-+turquoise+and+yellow.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>Until then, here's the printable to get you started. Simply save as and print full size on your printer at home. Cut in half to get two pages.<br />
<br />
Hope you enjoy and this makes your life a bit more organized!<br />

<br />
This is what I'm up to this weekend!<br />
<img src="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-8XBCEe6rwGY/TlkdlI8UlrI/AAAAAAAAEq8/M0GN06eQ_JE/2011-08-27%25252012.37.47.png" /><br />
<br />
I'm working on using up this can of primer by painting the walls of the upstairs landing.<br />
<br />
Slowly but surely, I will eliminate all the baby-poop colors that came with this house!<br />
<br />
I'm also working on some projects for Sissy to help her study!<br />
<br />
What are you up to this weekend?</div>Margaret@MissAdventures of Susie Homemakerhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16123525844064425996noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-206895781097921595.post-84736883327875669062011-08-25T21:15:00.000-04:002011-08-25T21:15:15.696-04:00Mis-Adventure: Cleaning the ovenSomehow, I managed to make it the past almost 10 years of living on my own without cleaning my oven. Until tonight.<br />
<br />
I made cheesecake for Prince Charming's birthday earlier in the week. (And I was so distracted making sure I didn't poison him this is the only photo I got with my phone)<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-h9A0Xs06lfA/Tlby-lYTaeI/AAAAAAAAEqw/lW9ec-19-CQ/s1600/2011-08-21+19.40.21.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-h9A0Xs06lfA/Tlby-lYTaeI/AAAAAAAAEqw/lW9ec-19-CQ/s1600/2011-08-21+19.40.21.jpg" /></a></div><br />
Having a brand new spring form pan, I didn't bother to line the bottom like both the recipe and University of Mom told me to. So I guess it leaked onto the bottom of my oven. <span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: large;">oops.</span> No wonder it smelled so good baking.<br />
<br />
Fast forward to tonight, when I decide I had better clean the oven before I cook in it tomorrow. So not knowing any better, I flipped the latch on the door, turned the dial, and let 'er rip.<br />
<br />
The poor dog and I have now retreated upstairs with all the windows open to escape the smoke. Because apparently a "self cleaning oven" means it BURNS everything off the bottom. And there was some crusty stuff on the bottom. <br />
<br />
<i>Lessons from the University of Mom:</i><br />
<br />
1. Listen to what Momma says. She's usually right.<br />
2. Clean the oven before you clean the oven.<br />
<br />
On tap for tomorrow: Fabreeze the entire house.<br />

I was slow at first, but now I'm loving it! It's definitely easier to pin things you see if you install the "Pin It" button, which I just did.<br />
<br />
I thought I would share a few of the things I've pinned recently:<br />

I'm in love with the white surround and hearth on this fireplace. I'm definitely making over my fireplace this winter and using it! This would be an awesome addition. <br />

My Mom has a cross-stitch of this poem that hung in my nursery. Tons of people I know just had babies and are pregnant, so this is a perfect reminder for the new Mommas to cherish their babies while they're small! As my Mom can tell you, they grow WAY too fast! Wouldn't it be great as part of a gallery wall in a nursery?<br />
<br />
What have you pinned lately?<br />

And I am SO stinkin' proud of her. One of the things she needed was a place to study, write papers, and read all those books.<br />
<br />
She loves the look of Ballard Designs, so that was the perfect inspiration for her office. We couldn't do it on that kind of budget, of course. Sissy is now a starving student.<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-24tOdov0hQk/TknkQdFqZAI/AAAAAAAAEnw/T0zZHEHLPIA/s1600/Ballard+Inspiration-+office.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-24tOdov0hQk/TknkQdFqZAI/AAAAAAAAEnw/T0zZHEHLPIA/s320/Ballard+Inspiration-+office.jpg" width="320" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://www.ballarddesigns.com/whitley-desk/furniture/desks/194275">Source</a></td></tr>
</tbody></table><br />
It started with an inspiration board and a space plan.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-DUCAkKEMeno/TkyJJX_qprI/AAAAAAAAEn0/lHsuHp2ZskM/s1600/virginia+spencer+home+office-07.07.11_Page_1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-DUCAkKEMeno/TkyJJX_qprI/AAAAAAAAEn0/lHsuHp2ZskM/s320/virginia+spencer+home+office-07.07.11_Page_1.jpg" width="318" /></a></div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-vqr93gFGALE/Tknjc_e_PUI/AAAAAAAAEng/NkBVfQC7X5I/s1600/Virginia+Spencer+Home+Office+Layout1+%25281%2529.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-vqr93gFGALE/Tknjc_e_PUI/AAAAAAAAEng/NkBVfQC7X5I/s320/Virginia+Spencer+Home+Office+Layout1+%25281%2529.jpg" width="247" /></a></div><br />
Then, Sissy and Mom went shopping while I had to work.<br />
<br />
Here's the office as of now:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-m3rYt4NJFuM/Tknjz-8SoQI/AAAAAAAAEnk/46QhnpF0iVs/s1600/PICT0130.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-m3rYt4NJFuM/Tknjz-8SoQI/AAAAAAAAEnk/46QhnpF0iVs/s320/PICT0130.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><br />

<br />
I have lots of plans for finishing touches!Margaret@MissAdventures of Susie Homemakerhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16123525844064425996noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-206895781097921595.post-86469866734982068232011-08-17T08:00:00.000-04:002011-08-17T08:00:15.177-04:00The Mis-tint Paint ChallengeI have an idea. Call me crazy, but wouldn't it be interesting to see what you could create if you had to use a surprise mis-tint paint in your house? I think I'm watching too much reality TV. I was starting to prime the dining room floor, determined to use up what I had, when I got to thinking about oops paint.<br />
<br />
Here's what I'm thinking:<br />
<br />
Get someone you know to go grab the first can of mis-tint interior paint they can find. No looking at the color, and you don't get to be in the store. Once you get it, you have to incorporate it into your home. Maybe it's a gallon and you paint the powder room. Maybe it's a test sample, and you create custom artwork or paint a chair. No matter what, you have to use it in your home.<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-puCE2qPNl7A/TkMPXhrVHHI/AAAAAAAAEho/-pR57ysT2sU/s1600/Oops+Paint.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-puCE2qPNl7A/TkMPXhrVHHI/AAAAAAAAEho/-pR57ysT2sU/s320/Oops+Paint.jpg" width="320" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://theprudentpatron.com/2010/05/how-to-save-money-on-paint-oops-paints.html">source</a></td></tr>
</tbody></table><br />
I think it'd be a challenge to my creativity- to grow as a designer by using a "surprise ingredient" that you may not even personally like at the beginning. How can I incorporate this ingredient into my home, and make it something I will love.<br />
<br />
Who's with me? Any takers? Is this an interesting idea, or am I totally insane?<br />

It's very true, and I'm back again today with another chicken recipe. </span><br />

</span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">This one comes from my Mom, who cut it out of a Publix flyer.</span><br />

They add such a nice finished look without being 10,000 things to take off when you want to go to sleep. (Which is a plus if you have a Mr. in the house. They don't seem to understand decorative very well.) Also, Euro shams are a great size for propping up in bed to read. So they were a definite must-do for my bedroom makeover.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-9Cxp2MpuXMw/TkSOq-mcjNI/AAAAAAAAEh8/wu46sc4WEPQ/s1600/2011-08-07+14.32.27.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-9Cxp2MpuXMw/TkSOq-mcjNI/AAAAAAAAEh8/wu46sc4WEPQ/s320/2011-08-07+14.32.27.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br />
First, I washed and dried my fabric. If you don't wash before sewing, your piece just became dry clean only.<br />
<br />
While I was waiting on the fabric, I did my math.<br />
<br />
European pillows are 26" x 26" square. To make sure the pillows were nice and puffy, I wanted them to squish inside my shams. Therefore, my space for my pillow is 24 x 24. I wanted a 3" flange around the outside.<br />
<br />
Therefore, my finished dimensions of my sham would be 3" flange + 24" insert size + 3" flange = 30". I added 1/2" on each side for a seam allowance, giving me 31" x 31" for my front piece.<br />
<br />
Now, I needed to figure out the back. I wanted an envelope closure that overlapped in the back. I decided on a 2" overlap.<br />
<br />
So 3" flange + 12" (half of the insert) + 2" for front hem + 1/2" seam allowance = 17 1/2" wide x the same 31" high.<br />
<br />
Then my last piece needed to be 19 1/2" wide to give me a 2" overlap.<br />
<br />
Next, I ironed my fabric to get it nice and flat.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-pflf_OL8gwc/TkSPOartHCI/AAAAAAAAEiA/I2101fAHm1Q/s1600/2011-08-07+10.15.02.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-pflf_OL8gwc/TkSPOartHCI/AAAAAAAAEiA/I2101fAHm1Q/s320/2011-08-07+10.15.02.jpg" width="240" /></a></div><br />
Now, to cut my pieces. I have a bit of trouble with straight lines, so I opted to let the fabric do it for me.<br />
<br />
I laid it out flat on my table, measured 31", and cut a small notch.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-2FTozZiZ6EQ/TkSPUwv7odI/AAAAAAAAEiI/YHYujgXm-M4/s1600/2011-08-07+10.23.53.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-2FTozZiZ6EQ/TkSPUwv7odI/AAAAAAAAEiI/YHYujgXm-M4/s320/2011-08-07+10.23.53.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-dT1uqJe-Wh0/TkSPUK9u3NI/AAAAAAAAEiE/GYhKPzCA3A0/s1600/2011-08-07+10.24.05.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-dT1uqJe-Wh0/TkSPUK9u3NI/AAAAAAAAEiE/GYhKPzCA3A0/s320/2011-08-07+10.24.05.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br />
Rip across to get a 31" tall piece. Measure across the width 31", cut, and rip again to get 31" wide.<br />
<br />
This is your front. Label and set aside.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-KEZLgtU-AWg/TkSP1uwwUdI/AAAAAAAAEiM/5qLS2RQDakw/s1600/2011-08-07+10.26.58.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-KEZLgtU-AWg/TkSP1uwwUdI/AAAAAAAAEiM/5qLS2RQDakw/s320/2011-08-07+10.26.58.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br />
Repeat the measuring and ripping to get your three pieces.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-rxMzIF1lwsk/TkSP6Vn_qAI/AAAAAAAAEiQ/UFwi_XWEs_0/s1600/2011-08-07+10.50.31.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-rxMzIF1lwsk/TkSP6Vn_qAI/AAAAAAAAEiQ/UFwi_XWEs_0/s320/2011-08-07+10.50.31.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div> For both back pieces, fold one edge over 1", and iron.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-brK-2cDbIxk/TkSQ0a_8ZTI/AAAAAAAAEiY/H-YfBemY_wM/s1600/2011-08-07+10.55.29.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-brK-2cDbIxk/TkSQ0a_8ZTI/AAAAAAAAEiY/H-YfBemY_wM/s320/2011-08-07+10.55.29.jpg" width="240" /></a></div> Fold over again, and iron again to make a double hem.<br />

It will look like this from the back:</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-AvJJ-WJfue4/TkSRHciyc2I/AAAAAAAAEio/M-INRH3HUNY/s1600/2011-08-07+14.05.07.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-AvJJ-WJfue4/TkSRHciyc2I/AAAAAAAAEio/M-INRH3HUNY/s320/2011-08-07+14.05.07.jpg" width="320" /></a></div> Repeat with the second back piece.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-qQ29vZBuz70/TkSRF8OAs9I/AAAAAAAAEik/VykgV9E-Td4/s1600/2011-08-07+14.05.27.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-qQ29vZBuz70/TkSRF8OAs9I/AAAAAAAAEik/VykgV9E-Td4/s320/2011-08-07+14.05.27.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-0KLyekAEnWA/TkSRdeOYwuI/AAAAAAAAEis/SM-VLCYbh0U/s1600/2011-08-07+14.33.38.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><br />
</a></div> Now it's time to assemble the pillow. Lay the front piece on your table, face up.<br />
<br />
Lay the 17 1/2" wide piece face down on top of the front, lining up the edges.<br />
<br />
Lay the remaining piece face down on top of the other two, again lining up the edges.<br />
<br />
Sew along the edge, using a 1/2" seam allowance.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-F7nHEIPGE9U/TkSReAZo98I/AAAAAAAAEiw/89Po2lQKRUM/s1600/2011-08-07+14.12.36.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-F7nHEIPGE9U/TkSReAZo98I/AAAAAAAAEiw/89Po2lQKRUM/s320/2011-08-07+14.12.36.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br />
Turn your sham inside out and press.<br />
<br />
Top-stitch all the way around, 3" from the edge to create the flange.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-vgW3r6cY0P8/TkSRfPmw09I/AAAAAAAAEi0/n1TKPoobx7c/s1600/2011-08-07+14.23.42.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-vgW3r6cY0P8/TkSRfPmw09I/AAAAAAAAEi0/n1TKPoobx7c/s320/2011-08-07+14.23.42.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br />
Stuff your pillows in and enjoy!<br />

It's still hot as ever here in Georgia, and I am in love with this super-easy Sangria recipe. Originally from Weight Watchers, I have taken this to a day on the river and to an outdoor concert. Super easy and super yummy!<br />
<br />
Summer Sangria:<br />
<br />
2 cups red wine<br />
2 cups diet cranberry-raspberry juice drink<br />
1 cup diced strawberry<br />
1 cup diced apple<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/--ofwUF_5aXY/TkMQ9iypciI/AAAAAAAAEhs/GnkuOWlWPbI/s1600/2011-08-10+18.56.59.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/--ofwUF_5aXY/TkMQ9iypciI/AAAAAAAAEhs/GnkuOWlWPbI/s320/2011-08-10+18.56.59.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>Mix all ingredients together in a large pitcher and refrigerate at least an hour to become cold and let the flavors meld. Serve.<br />
<br />
Yields 8 4-oz servings.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-FfHavxDIuMs/TkMRC6G963I/AAAAAAAAEhw/GCYp3EvbZl0/s1600/2011-08-10+18.56.49.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-FfHavxDIuMs/TkMRC6G963I/AAAAAAAAEhw/GCYp3EvbZl0/s320/2011-08-10+18.56.49.jpg" width="240" /></a></div><br />
<br />
Great for an evening on the patio too!<br />

The day got away from me at work, and I didn't finish this until late today! Thank you for reading!***<br />
<br />
Several months ago, I fell in love with some placemats at One Kings Lane. Of course I can't find them now, but I think they were from Dransfield and Ross. I did save this image from when I found them originally.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-HbOScvlnelU/TkMSOrV9UpI/AAAAAAAAEh4/YS0cu5CzosI/s1600/Entertaining_Napkin+Know+How_Img05_hz.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="259" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-HbOScvlnelU/TkMSOrV9UpI/AAAAAAAAEh4/YS0cu5CzosI/s320/Entertaining_Napkin+Know+How_Img05_hz.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br />
Hexagonal, Leather, Nailhead trim. I was in LOVE with everything about them. Well, except the pricey price tag. So I set out to DIY some. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-qCf-XKhgQ6c/TVtDMU7HhOI/AAAAAAAAD6M/m9PB7CGRf5A/s1600/DSCN1349_thumb" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-qCf-XKhgQ6c/TVtDMU7HhOI/AAAAAAAAD6M/m9PB7CGRf5A/s1600/DSCN1349_thumb" /></a></div><br />
My first attempt was a total failure. You can read about it<a href="http://theadventuresofsusiehomemaker.blogspot.com/2011/02/crafty-misadventure.html"> here</a>. <br />
My second attempt was too, although I'm getting better. <br />
<br />
I decided they needed to be hardboard like placemats, with a decorative top and nailhead trim, with a hard coating and cork back. Sounds easy right?<br />
<br />
Off I went to Lowe's and found the 1/8" plywood project panels. I had Prince Charming cut them down for me to 12x24 rectangles. <br />
<br />
Then I took some wrapping paper and ModPodge Hardcoat. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-0WCebbf8V-w/TkJ0hSxDUhI/AAAAAAAAEhI/7Pmn13gScWo/2011-08-09%25252021.28.11.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-0WCebbf8V-w/TkJ0hSxDUhI/AAAAAAAAEhI/7Pmn13gScWo/2011-08-09%25252021.28.11.png" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-Z-R8H-5rWFM/TkJ0jgdgaWI/AAAAAAAAEhM/l7DgMnUynLQ/2011-08-09%25252021.28.02.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-Z-R8H-5rWFM/TkJ0jgdgaWI/AAAAAAAAEhM/l7DgMnUynLQ/2011-08-09%25252021.28.02.png" /></a></div><a href="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-Z-R8H-5rWFM/TkJ0jgdgaWI/AAAAAAAAEhM/l7DgMnUynLQ/2011-08-09%25252021.28.02.png" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><br />
</a><br />
<br />
I put a layer of Hardcoat on the plywood, then laid my wrapping paper down. Then I smoothed it out with a credit card. Half a bottle of Hardcoat later, I still don't have that built- up finish I'm looking for. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-ahU7idwfaio/TkJ0ekT03ZI/AAAAAAAAEhE/Tr0Qz_mDWSQ/2011-08-09%25252021.28.33.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-ahU7idwfaio/TkJ0ekT03ZI/AAAAAAAAEhE/Tr0Qz_mDWSQ/2011-08-09%25252021.28.33.png" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div>Then I read <a href="http://tatertotsandjello.blogspot.com/2011/06/fabric-covered-resin-table-redo-plus-23.html">this post</a> by Jen at Tatertots and Jello. Lightbulb!<br />
<br />
I need resin. And I think I"m going to try this with actual Masonite, some studs designed for clothing, and a pour on resin. <br />
<br />
<br />
Stay tuned and hopefully it will work this time!!!!<br />

I'm pretty sure one of these days I'm going to start clucking. So I'm always looking for new ways to fix chicken that are quick, easy, and healthy.<div></div><div><br />
</div><div>Who doesn't love buffalo wings? I definitely do, and this wraps up all those flavors. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-diozY5bXK0o/TkCcV2KPOgI/AAAAAAAAEfQ/8iBMK-6Nuao/s1600/2011-07-21+18.56.54.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-diozY5bXK0o/TkCcV2KPOgI/AAAAAAAAEfQ/8iBMK-6Nuao/s320/2011-07-21+18.56.54.jpg" width="240" /></a></div><div><br />
</div><div>To start, you will need:</div><div>Chicken breasts</div><div>Laughing Cow Blue Cheese Wedges</div><div>Hot Sauce ( I prefer Frank's)</div><div><br />
</div><div>Cut a slit into the side of your chicken, making a pocket for your cheese. Do not cut all the way through!</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-TJuv1INckX0/TkCcWkr-ZII/AAAAAAAAEfU/JPVwVUs59bw/s1600/2011-07-21+18.57.13.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-TJuv1INckX0/TkCcWkr-ZII/AAAAAAAAEfU/JPVwVUs59bw/s320/2011-07-21+18.57.13.jpg" width="240" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-xGWJMKVt8yg/TkCcXaTgSNI/AAAAAAAAEfY/LgmNFn3FG0I/s1600/2011-07-21+18.57.50.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-xGWJMKVt8yg/TkCcXaTgSNI/AAAAAAAAEfY/LgmNFn3FG0I/s320/2011-07-21+18.57.50.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div><br />
</div><div>Unwrap a cheese wedge, and combine it with hot sauce to taste. You can add some cream cheese to make it creamier and melt better. I didn't and wish I had. Stuff this inside your chicken's pocket.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-MuvrBDw-KPI/TkCcYOIf0bI/AAAAAAAAEfc/Zm8yCmK58-M/s1600/2011-07-21+18.59.46.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-MuvrBDw-KPI/TkCcYOIf0bI/AAAAAAAAEfc/Zm8yCmK58-M/s320/2011-07-21+18.59.46.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div><br />
</div><div>Close with toothpicks. That way all the cheesy goodness will stay inside.</div><div><br />
</div><div>Brush more hot sauce on top of the chicken. You can definitely coat the chicken breasts with panko bread crumbs if you want a crunchy "fried" tasting outside. </div><div><br />
</div><div>Bake at 350 until done, 20-25 minutes. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-h1-jQjYNkPQ/TkCcZLT99iI/AAAAAAAAEfg/ne-OPyUiOyk/s1600/2011-07-21+19.40.15.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-h1-jQjYNkPQ/TkCcZLT99iI/AAAAAAAAEfg/ne-OPyUiOyk/s320/2011-07-21+19.40.15.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div><br />
</div><div>Enjoy!</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-I4utgYZggx4/TkCcVBfxrOI/AAAAAAAAEfM/3W92N-r1lYY/s1600/2011-07-21+19.41.10.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-I4utgYZggx4/TkCcVBfxrOI/AAAAAAAAEfM/3W92N-r1lYY/s320/2011-07-21+19.41.10.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div><br />
</div><div><br />
</div><div>Overall, it was really yummy, and tasted like a hot wing with blue cheese. I definitely would add cream cheese if i made it again to make it cheeseier and melt better. I also think panko on top would make a great complement to the melty cheese. </div><div><br />
</div><div>Thanks to Kristen for the recipe idea!</div><div><br />

Since Prince Charming is a photographer, I picked out two prints that matched my pink and green scheme.<br />
<br />
Now, I just needed to get some custom framing, cheap.<br />
<br />
I found these two at Goodwill for $5 each. I loved the detail on the frame, and they were in great condition.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-HKQRUek4gOg/TkCWIVVVP-I/AAAAAAAAEek/Julz_AifX9A/s1600/Master+ART+BEFORE.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-HKQRUek4gOg/TkCWIVVVP-I/AAAAAAAAEek/Julz_AifX9A/s400/Master+ART+BEFORE.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><br />
First, I took the paper off the back and lifted all the little tabs holding the original artwork in place.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-ZrBBhktt4Ik/TkCW0ReKoRI/AAAAAAAAEeo/R5dZk74eQIc/s1600/DSCN1173.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-ZrBBhktt4Ik/TkCW0ReKoRI/AAAAAAAAEeo/R5dZk74eQIc/s320/DSCN1173.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><br />
Once everything was out, I spray painted the frames silver.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/--CqSW8JjiOI/TkCXqxqw7oI/AAAAAAAAEes/-9HFDbfIfHI/s1600/DSCN1200.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/--CqSW8JjiOI/TkCXqxqw7oI/AAAAAAAAEes/-9HFDbfIfHI/s320/DSCN1200.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><br />
Now it was time to reassemble my art!<br />
<br />
I had mats cut at Hobby Lobby to fit my prints and my frames.<br />
<br />
Then, to reassemble:<br />
<br />
Put the frame face down on a clean surface.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-VMBWeMHgh1k/TkCZLHSIFtI/AAAAAAAAEe0/LhzWmK9wx6g/s1600/DSCN1215.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-VMBWeMHgh1k/TkCZLHSIFtI/AAAAAAAAEe0/LhzWmK9wx6g/s320/DSCN1215.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>Put the cleaned glass in, making sure not to get fingerprints all over it.<br />
<br />
Then put your mat in.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-RyzTQGlent0/TkCZQV-gd9I/AAAAAAAAEe4/hEwDBbdtFSM/s1600/DSCN1217.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-RyzTQGlent0/TkCZQV-gd9I/AAAAAAAAEe4/hEwDBbdtFSM/s320/DSCN1217.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><br />
Now, put your picture in, securing it if needed with acid free tape.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-bWcT0jtMnuU/TkCZbBo1TOI/AAAAAAAAEfA/BDRvDB4jt2A/s1600/DSCN1225.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-bWcT0jtMnuU/TkCZbBo1TOI/AAAAAAAAEfA/BDRvDB4jt2A/s320/DSCN1225.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><br />
Now for the fun part. Putting all those tabby things back down. I recommend a flat head screwdriver as the tool of choice. Be gentle, the metal is thin and it will break on you! ( not that I know from experience or anything)<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-iKHuoXa1OAU/TkCZVh8sUdI/AAAAAAAAEe8/0EXxJEdB4Yo/s1600/DSCN1223.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-iKHuoXa1OAU/TkCZVh8sUdI/AAAAAAAAEe8/0EXxJEdB4Yo/s320/DSCN1223.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><br />
To finish the back, I took kraft paper and cut it slightly larger than my frame. I put tape all around the outside edge of the back, then stuck the paper on. Spray lightly with water. As the paper dries, it will draw up and create a tight back.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-D0JU0M2N2rY/TkCZg_yTIyI/AAAAAAAAEfE/HpirbOMEJu0/s1600/DSCN1237.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-D0JU0M2N2rY/TkCZg_yTIyI/AAAAAAAAEfE/HpirbOMEJu0/s320/DSCN1237.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><br />
Hang your finished art!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-xtkAlhuG6ZU/TkCZmTMn6-I/AAAAAAAAEfI/KRQLDufxgoA/s1600/DSCN1242.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-xtkAlhuG6ZU/TkCZmTMn6-I/AAAAAAAAEfI/KRQLDufxgoA/s320/DSCN1242.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><br />
I love how it looks in my room. Original designer art at the fraction of the cost!<br />
